Formula 1 News: Hamilton tops practice 2 for 2025 Azerbaijan GP

With Ferrari looking very strong as the track cooled, Lewis Hamilton (pictured) turned a lap of 1m41.293s around the Baku City Circuit to top Practice 2 for the 2025 Azerbaijan GP

Hamilton was just 0.074s faster than the #16 Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. His time was faster than last year’s pole time.

Hamilton has looked strong since the summer break, and he delivered a solid session there for the Scuderia. He ran the mediums and the softs, looked fast on both and after his heavy brush with the barriers in FP1, kept his second practice session much cleaner.

While Ferrari was 1-2 in this session, the faster McLarens both hit the wall and lost a lot of time and performance.

George Russell was third fastest for Mercedes, 0.477s behind his former teammate Hamilton.

Kimi Antonelli was close behind his teammate in 4th, 0.486s behind Hamilton.

Oliver Bearman rounded out the top-5 for Haas, 0.598s behind Hamilton.

Max Verstappen could just manage 6th in the Red Bull RB21 dog, but he did appear to be focusing on race setups.

Lando Norris, who topped Practice 1, smacked the wall with his left rear and broke his suspension, forcing him to miss half the session. Norris only managed 7 laps.

McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri also hit the wall. Piastri hit the barrier with the right side of his car, contacting both the right front and right rear.
