IMSA News: Is Grosjean staring at possible end to his racing career?

Lamborghini Squadra Corse has parted ways with Romain Grosjean after three seasons as a factory driver, leaving the Franco-Swiss racer at a crossroads in his motorsport journey.

Grosjean transitioned to Lamborghini following a decade in Formula 1 and concurrent stints in IndyCar, tasked with helping develop the SC63 LMDh prototype through 2023 and into 2024. He marked the car’s global debut with a seventh-place finish at the 2024 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

His standout IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship result in the SC63 arrived just last month at the season finale, Petit Le Mans, where he claimed fourth—a fitting send-off in what proved to be the prototype’s last race before Lamborghini announced a minimum one-year hiatus for the program. Earlier that year, Grosjean also piloted the SC63 to a 13th-overall finish in its sole Le Mans 24 Hours appearance.

Lamborghini bid farewell via a heartfelt social media statement: “From his first laps in Almería in 2023, when he officially drove the Lamborghini SC63 for the first time, to the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024, the journey has been filled with emotions and milestones. It continued in the 2025 IMSA season, culminating at Road Atlanta, where the team earned a well-deserved fourth place—a testament to their resilience, growth, and determination.

“But now it’s time to say goodbye… Thank you, Romain, for the passion, talent, and commitment you brought to the track with us. See you on the asphalt!”

With his Lamborghini chapter closed, Grosjean is actively seeking an IndyCar comeback for next season. As he shared with DSC as early as September, he’d rather pursue prototype racing in sports cars than pivot to a GT3 role with the Italian marque.
