Formula 1 News: Lusail International Circuit Changes for 2025 Qatar GP
The Lusail International Circuit, a 5.38 km track with 16 corners designed primarily for motorcycles but adapted for F1, features medium- and high-speed turns that challenge tires and overtaking. Ahead of the 2025 Qatar GP (November 28–30), the FIA has implemented modifications to enforce track limits and reduce violations seen in prior years, particularly at Turns 10 and 16.
Key Track Modifications
– New Gravel Strips: Installed at the exit of Turn 6 (right-hander leading to barriers), the outside of Turn 10 (wide sweeper), and the exit of Turn 16 (onto the main straight). These act as run-off deterrents, punishing excursions with lost time.
– Extension at Turn 14: The existing gravel bed at the exit has been extended backward to activate earlier, closing off aggressive lines.
Curbs at affected turns have been reprofiled—raised and textured—to unsettle tires that cross limits, promoting cleaner racing.

Tire Regulations
Pirelli mandates a maximum of 25 laps per tire set across the entire weekend (Sprint and Grand Prix). This forces at least two stops in the 57-lap main race, emphasizing qualifying and track position over tire management, with limited strategic flexibility.
Event Context
The weekend includes the season’s final Sprint (19 laps, Saturday), awarding points in a tight championship. These changes aim to ensure fairness in the title fight, with no layout alterations to the core 5.38 km circuit.
