Formula 2 News: Goethe quickest once again on Day 2 of post-season testing at Yas Marina
Oliver Goethe (pictured) picked up from where he left off on the opening day to set the fastest time of the second day of post-season testing at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The MP Motorsport driver led the way with a 1:37.049, in the morning session when times were at their quickest, while Invicta Racing’s Rafael Câmara topped the afternoon session with a 1:37.646.
MORNING
It was a quick start to Day 2 as Goethe resumed his flying pace to set the standard after the first laps with a 1:40.156, before improving to a 1:39.483 on his next attempt.
His MP Motorsport teammate Gabriele Minì then took over at the top with a 1:38.759, only for Alexander Dunne to eclipse that moments later with a 1:38.759.
The MP pairing then switched over to the Supersoft tire and once again it was Goethe that led the way, this time with a 1:37.390. Minì was second, initially by 0.280s, before closing the gap to 0.035s, with Nikola Tsolov in third for Campos Racing.
But then came Dunne once more and he took over at the top with a 1:37.318, just before Mari Boya stopped on the Main Straight, bringing out the Red Flags.
Once the action resumed, Goethe went back to P1, with a 1:37.049, while Rafael Villagómez jumped to fourth ahead of Dino Beganovic.
Beganovic improved to fourth but was later demoted to P5 with an hour to go when Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak jumped up to P4 with a 1:37.476.
That wrapped up a morning where Goethe led the way ahead of Dunne, with Minì third, Inthraphuvasak in fourth and Beganovic in fifth.
Câmara was fastest in the afternoon session ahead of his Invicta Racing teammate Joshua Duerksen
AFTERNOON
Dunne continued his good form in the afternoon, completing a 1:39.723 to the lead the way ahead of his Rodin teammate Martinius Stenshorne in P2, who was just 0.045s behind.
Joshua Duerksen then put Invicta Racing to P1 with a 1:39.715. However, Dunne quickly took back the top position thanks to a 1:39.435, before lowering that to a 1:39.359.
Just over an hour and a half into the session, Stenshorne went quickest, but Duerksen returned to P1 at first with a 1:38.195 and then to a 1:38.191.
On the Supersoft tire, the Invicta Racing driver continued his good form, improving to a 1:37.742 to extend his lead out in front to 0.882s.
Rafael Câmara then improved to P3 on his set of Mediums, a 1:38.57 put him into the top three, albeit 1.1s down on the leading time.
With five minutes left in the day though, Câmara bolted on a set of the Supersoft tires and went quickest on a 1:37.646.
That wrapped up the second day of testing, with the teams and drivers left with one final day of running in 2025. Tomorrow’s session is set to get underway once again at 09:00 local time.
