Supercars News: Walkinshaw Andretti United becomes Walkinshaw TWG Racing
Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU), a powerhouse in the Supercars Championship, has announced significant changes to its ownership structure and a fresh rebranding to Walkinshaw TWG Racing. The update marks the end of an era while paving the way for continued success in Australian motorsport and beyond.
The news highlights the departure of United Autosports from its ownership role, allowing the organization—co-founded by McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and Richard Dean—to concentrate on its expanding European and endurance racing commitments, including a 2027 entry into the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with McLaren United. The vacated shares have been acquired by TWG Motorsports, led by Dan Towriss, resulting in a new ownership split between the Walkinshaw Group (headed by Ryan Walkinshaw) and TWG Motorsports. This follows TWG’s earlier takeover from Andretti Global, which is gearing up for a 2026 Formula 1 venture with Cadillac.
Zak Brown described the move as “incredibly difficult,” reflecting on the partnership’s achievements since 2018. Ryan Walkinshaw, CEO and Managing Director of Walkinshaw Group, praised the collaboration: “United Autosports, and more specifically, Zak Brown and Richard Dean, have been nothing but fantastic to work with since 2018. While we are all sad to see them go, we completely respect their decision. We’ve shared in some fantastic moments together, none bigger than the Championship in Adelaide a few weeks ago, or winning Bathurst in 2021.”
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports (part of the TWG Global group with stakes in Chelsea Football Club and the Los Angeles Dodgers), expressed gratitude: “We’re thankful for everything United Autosports has contributed to this team since 2018 and for the success we shared along the way. Their role in building where we are today will always be an important part of our story… Now our focus turns fully to an exciting new chapter in 2026 with a new name, a new manufacturer in Toyota and returning as a homologation team, while carrying forward the same core group with the same desire to win – and defend our new championship.”
The rebranding, complete with a new logo, takes effect on February 3, 2026, ahead of the Repco Supercars Championship opener. The team will maintain its two-car lineup, debuting Toyota GR Supras at Sydney Motorsport Park from February 20-22. Operations remain “business as usual,” with an emphasis on technical advancements, a move to new headquarters, and defending their recent championship title.
This evolution reflects shifting dynamics in global motorsport, blending local roots with strategic international alignments. As the 2026 season approaches, Walkinshaw TWG Racing stands poised to build on its legacy.
