In the quiet halls of the team’s Hinwil facility in Switzerland, a roar echoed on December 19, 2025—one that signaled a new era dawning in Formula 1. The Audi Revolut F1 Team successfully fired up its 2026 Challenger for the first time, with the all-new Audi Power Unit bursting to life inside the chassis. For any F1 project, the inaugural fire-up is a pivotal rite of passage. It verifies the seamless marriage of powertrain and chassis, confirming that the countless hours of development have paid off. But for Audi’s ambitious factory effort—spanning the power unit hub in Neuburg, Germany; the chassis base in Hinwil; and the emerging Technical Centre in Bicester, UK—this event carried extra weight. It represented the fruits of intense collaboration across borders, bringing to life the dedication of hundreds of engineers, mechanics, and specialists pouring their expertise into the brand’s debut under the revolutionary 2026 regulations.

The successful integration lays a robust foundation as the team gears up for the major technical overhaul next season, emphasizing sustainable fuels and enhanced electrification. More than a technical checkbox, it was an emotional pinnacle—the car awakening with a thunderous growl, injecting fresh momentum into the entire operation.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner captured the broader significance: “For Audi, entering Formula 1 is a key part of our brand’s ongoing renewal. This milestone is a clear demonstration of our ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ ambition. It is the result of seamless teamwork and a relentless pursuit of excellence that will serve as a guiding example for the entire Audi organization. This project is a catalyst for change, fostering pride, identity, and enthusiasm. With the fire-up, the hard work of the teams in Hinwil, Neuburg and Bicester now truly comes to life, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Audi’s motorsport history.”

Mattia Binotto, steering the Audi F1 Project, echoed the sentiment: “A fire-up is always a special moment, but this one marks a new beginning. It is the tangible result of our collective ambition and the dedicated work of our teams in Neuburg and Hinwil. Seeing everything come together for the first time gives the entire project incredible energy. We have built a solid foundation for what will be a long journey, defined by our relentless drive to improve.”

Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley added his perspective on the achievement: “This successful fire-up is a critical milestone that validates the quality of the work and collaboration across all departments. It energizes the entire team and provides a clear focus as we prepare for the next phases of development, including the moment we first bring the car to track. This achievement brings our first race in Melbourne into sharp focus, and we will build on this foundation as one united team.”

With this key hurdle cleared, the Audi Revolut F1 Team presses on with preparations for its highly anticipated debut. Eyes now turn to the global launch event in Berlin on January 20, 2026, where the full race livery and on-track identity will be unveiled in an immersive spectacle. Just days later, the car will hit the circuit for the first collective pre-season test in Barcelona, edging closer to the season opener in Australia.

As the roar from Hinwil fades into focused development work, one thing is clear: Audi’s F1 adventure has truly begun.
