Hailie Deegan

ARCA News: After the IndyCar experiment failed, Deegan returns to stock cars

Hailie Deegan’s (pictured) journey in motorsports has been a rollercoaster of highs, challenges, and resilient comebacks. Emerging as a promising talent, she made her mark in the ARCA West Series between 2018 and 2020. During that time, she secured three victories—two in 2018 and one in 2019—and finished third in the 2020 standings, showcasing her aggressive driving style and potential to break barriers for women in racing.

Transitioning to higher levels, Deegan entered the NASCAR Truck Series full-time, competing in 69 races over several seasons. She achieved five top-10 finishes, navigating the intense competition and learning the intricacies of stock car racing at a professional level. In 2024, she stepped up to the Xfinity Series with AM Racing, but the stint proved short-lived. Midway through the season, underwhelming results led to her release, with team president Wade Moore explaining, “We haven’t had the success on track that we were hoping for in the first half of the season.” Joey Logano stepped in as her replacement.

Seeking a fresh challenge, Deegan pivoted to open-wheel racing in 2025, joining HMD Motorsports for the Indy NXT Series (formerly Indy Lights). The season was a steep learning curve; she finished 14th in the championship standings, with her best result being an 11th-place finish at Laguna Seca Raceway. Despite the modest outcomes, the experience broadened her skills, though it ultimately didn’t yield the success she aimed for.

In a surprising turn, Deegan announced her return to NASCAR in early 2026, rejoining Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) for the ARCA Racing Series West. She’ll pilot the No. 16 Chevrolet, backed by sponsors NAPA, Monster Energy, and Columbia Bank. Reflecting on the move, Deegan stated, “I’ve been away from stock cars for a bit but am focused on coming back stronger and competing for wins and a championship. Having Columbia Bank and Monster Energy on board and working with NAPA Auto Care again is going to be a thrill, and our goal is to get them to victory lane multiple times this year.”

BMR owner Bill McAnally echoed the enthusiasm: “Having Hailie back on our team is incredibly special. We enjoyed working together several years ago and won some races. I see the commitment she has for competing at this level and we want to be part of her success. She has the knowledge of winning out West, and we have a great chance to chase our 12th title with her and Mason Massey in the fold.”

As Deegan prepares for the 2026 season opener, her return represents a full-circle moment, leveraging her proven track record in the series while aiming to rebuild momentum in familiar territory. With a history that includes setting the record for the best finish by a woman in the Xfinity Series, she remains a figure of determination in the sport, focused on future victories and a potential championship run.
