IndyCar News: Saturday Morning Report from Firestone GP of St Petersburg

It is a wet race track this morning due to heavy rains that started when the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series went out to qualify yesterday afternoon and continued throughout the night.  The weather today is predicted to be in the mid-70s and dry for the NTT INDYCAR Series qualifying later this afternoon.

James Hinchcliffe and Dario Franchitti are both running an entry in the truck race, which starts at Noon today.  The two former IndyCar drivers will start 3rd and 6th, respectively.

The Truck race (OnlyBulls Green Flag 150, 80 laps) is set for a noon ET start today—should be a fun one on the damp-but-drying 1.8-mile, 14-turn street circuit, especially with those two IndyCar vets up front mixing it up with the Truck regulars.

Here is the schedule for today:

NTT INDYCAR Series Practice 2               9:35 am

NASCAR Craftsman Trucks Race            12:00 pm

IndyCar Firestone Fax Six Qualifying      4:00 pm

This is a historic weekend—first time the Trucks are racing on the St. Pete streets, and having Hinchcliffe and Franchitti in the mix adds extra star power.   Should be a wild one with the road course experience those two bring!
