Formula E News: Da Costa Masters Pit Boost for Jaguar One-Two in Madrid
António Félix da Costa delivered a strategic masterclass to win the first-ever Formula E race in the Spanish capital, heading a dominant Jaguar TCS Racing one-two finish at the historic Circuito del Jarama on Saturday.
Starting third on the grid behind pole-sitter Nick Cassidy, da Costa timed his PIT BOOST activation to perfection midway through the 23-lap race. He seized the lead and defended brilliantly in the closing stages to hold off teammate Mitch Evans by just 0.386 seconds.
Pascal Wehrlein completed the podium for Porsche Formula E Team, finishing 0.799 seconds behind the winner. Dan Ticktum charged to an impressive fourth for CUPRA KIRO, while home hero Pepe Martí thrilled the packed crowd – including King Felipe VI – with a points-scoring ninth place.
The race was tactical and incident-light but full of lead changes during Attack Mode phases. Early drama saw Nyck de Vries clip Wehrlein at the hairpin on lap 3, earning a five-second penalty. Cassidy, who gave Citroën Racing its first Formula E pole, faded to 17th after struggling with energy management.
In a frantic finale, Evans overtook Ticktum for second before pressuring da Costa on the last lap, but the Portuguese driver kept his cool to secure the victory.
