INDYCAR Drivers Hail Facility Upgrades
Clean New Look to IMS
Indianapolis 500 drivers expected high quality from Roger Penske’s transformation of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, yet they were still surprised and impressed by its appearance when the facility upgrades were on display during the Fourth of July convergence of INDYCAR/NASCAR racing events. From the beautification through landscaping to a reimagined Georgetown Road to the 250 new racing flags raised along the property, it had a striking look. Clearly, it made a good first impression.

Driving the Stewart-Haas Racing No. 4 Ford, Harvick set the pace for 68 of the 161 laps in the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400. The outcome, which ended in long shadows near sunset after multiple delays at the start, was Harvick’s third win at the 2.5-mile Brickyard and the 53rd of his Cup Series career.

Dixon turns IndyCar GMR GP into a borefest
Gets lead on caution then drives away from field
Until today only a Team Penske IndyCar driver won the IndyCar GMR Grand Prix at Indianapolis the previous six years, and it appeared that would be the case again this year with Will Power dominating the race from pole. But an untimely caution and IndyCar's idiotic closed pit rule shafted the two Penske cars up front and put Scott Dixon near the front when the green flew. Once in clear air he pulled away to a 20-sec lead unchallenged and turned the race into a borefest.

Starting off July 4th NASCAR/IndyCar weekend at Indy at noon, the GMR Grand Prix will get the green light. Three-time winners Simon Pagenaud of France and Will Power of Australia, both driving for Team Penske, will be favored in Saturday's IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis, the second race since the season began last month.
