Lando Norris wins 2025 GP of Miami Sprint Race

Formula 1 New: Norris wins messy GP of Miami Sprint Race

Lando Norris led a 1-2 McLaren victory in a messy wet GP of Miami Sprint Race at the Miami International Autodrome.

Before the race even started, Charles Leclerc crashed his Ferrari and never started the race.

Max Verstappen was given a 10-second penalty for an unsafe pit release which saw him hit the right rear of polesitter Kimi Antonelli which means he scored zero points instead of 5. Verstappen was given the green light, and so cannot be blamed for going when told.

All while Lando Norris is going to get 8 points and Oscar Piastri will collect 7 points. This gives Verstappen just another reason to leave the incompetent Red Bull team.

Then the race finished behind the safety car when Fernando Alonso wadded up his Aston Martin. The timing of the  Safety Car allowed Norris to get in front of teammate Oscar Piastri.

“My luck in Miami seems pretty good at the minute, so I’m happy,” said Norris. “The pace was still very good but it’s so difficult these races. Do you box early like Lewis, or stay out and hope for a Safety Car. I’d rather this happened tomorrow but I’ll take it.

“It’s tricky, there are a lot of quick guys out there and I’m ready to go again. I’m excited!”

“I feel like I did pretty much everything right there, so a bit disappointed to come away with second,” said Piastri. But that’s how it goes, racing can be a cruel business. Happy with what I did.

“It would be nice if the weather could make up its mind, but we have a quick car underneath us.”

“It’s been a tough year so far, I never thought it would rain in Miami,” said third place Lewis Hamilton who benefitted from Red Bull’s screwups and by pitting early for slicks. “What a race it provided us. I really, really did struggle on the inters. I made that call at the end as I was going nowhere. Take the risk, take the gamble and it paid off.”

Alex Albon was fourth ahead of George Russell, Lance Stroll, Liam Lawson and Ollie Bearman.

Tsunoda finished ninth – and might be watching proceedings in the stewards, as Lawson could yet lose those points.

Polesitter Antonelli had everything go wrong at the start and finished 10th

Haas driver Ollie Bearman has received a five-second time penalty for an unsafe release during the eventful Sprint at the Miami International Autodrome.

As Haas finished changing Bearman’s tires, he was released into the pit lane, directly into the path of Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg. The German then had “to brake and take evasive action”, as detailed in the Stewards’ report of the incident.
