MotoGP News: Marquez pips teammate Bagnaia for Mugello pole
Marc Marquez (pictured) celebrated his 100th pole position during qualifying for Ducati’s home 2025 Italian MotoGP at Mugello, narrowly beating local hero Francesco Bagnaia in a factory Ducati 1-2.
The title leader set a new lap record using a tow by younger brother Alex in the opening qualifying run.
Second place went to the much-improved Bagnaia, just over five-hundredths of a second shy of Marc Marquez. Alex Maquez finished the session third, eight hundredths behind brother Marc Marquez.
Quartararo was a superb fourth, 0.242s behind Marquez, after being given the all-clear on Friday night to return to the track following his crash in Friday practice. However, in the race he is expected to fall back because his Yamaha eats tires.
Fast man in practice, Maverick Vinales’s Tech3 KTM was fifth with Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio in sixth and seventh respectively. Pedro Acosta could only manage eighth on the KTM, 0.611s behind Marquez
