Formula 1 News: Norris tops Practice 2 for the 2025 GP of Austria

Lando Norris (pictured) turned a lap of 1m04.580s in his superior McLaren to top Practice 2 for the 2025 GP of Austria at the Red Bull Ring.

Oscar Piastri was 2nd fastest in the other superior McLaren, 0.157s behind Norris.

Everyone one else was out to lunch.

Max Verstappen, carrying the Red Bull RB21 sled on his back was 3rd, 0.318s behind Norris

Lance Stroll was 4th fastest for Aston Martin, 0.442s behind Norris.

Charles Leclerc rounded out the top-5 for Ferrari, 0.610s behind Norris.

George Russell, who topped Practice 1, was 6th for Mercedes, 0.649s behind Norris.

Kick Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoleto was another driver to make their mark with a run to eighth, just in front of Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin and Hamilton, who lamented to his engineer over the radio that “for some reason I’ve just got no pace, mate”.

Antonelli wound up just outside the top-10 places, followed by the Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson – who had to return to the pits early on thanks to his steering wheel “pulling me massively to the right” – and Isack Hadjar.

Lewis Hamilton was 10th in the upgraded Ferrari, 0.931s behind Norris.

With four teams in the mix, a tight midfield, some reliability concerns and conditions that are set to test the teams. It all sounds like a good F1 weekend. Can Verstappen grab his sixth straight pole here with the RB21 sled, or is Norris or Piastri going to steal Red Bull’s thunder in the superior McLaren?
