F1 News: Norris and Piastri 1-2 in superior McLaren in Practice 1

Lando Norris turned a lap of 1m16.052s in his superior McLaren to top Practice 1 for the 2025 Hungarian GP at the Hungaroring.

Last year’s Hungarian GP winner, Oscar Piastri was 2nd fast in the superior #81 McLaren was just 0.019s behind Norris. Piastri’s win last year was his first ever F1 victory.

Charles Leclerc looked racy in the upgraded #16 Ferrari, 0.217s behind Norris – the only driver within half a second of the papaya cars.

The rest of the drivers were pretty much out to lunch.

Isack Hadjar was 4th for Racing Bulls, 0.629s behind Norris.

Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top-5 in his #44 Ferrari, 0.682s behind his fellow Englishman.

Oliver Bearman was 6th for Haas ahead of the two Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.

Max Verstappen in the Red Bull RB21 dog designed by Pierre Wache could only manage 9th fastest, 0.888s behind Norris.

Lance Stroll was 10th for Aston Martin, 0.906s behind the McLarens.

Up next is Practice 2 starting at 11:00am ET

If it stays dry, the cars looks likely to go even quicker tomorrow than they did last year – and as it stands, McLaren are the team to beat.
