Formula 1 News: FBI Ramps Up Security for 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix
Ahead of this weekend’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, FBI Las Vegas Special Agent in Charge Christopher Delzotto told Fox5 that the Bureau and its partners are fully prepared for any scenario.
“We have confidence that we’re ready—no matter what happens,” Delzotto said.
Despite being in the SAC role for only a few months, Delzotto emphasized that planning began two years ago, ahead of the inaugural race in 2023. The FBI has since held monthly coordination meetings with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners and conducted multiple tabletop exercises to game out everything from crowd surges to active threats.
“When it’s game time, we’re not figuring out who does what for the first time,” he said. “Whether it’s Formula 1 or a bomb threat, the uniform doesn’t matter—public safety does.”
Key security measures this year include:
– Five dedicated FBI command posts around the circuit, one focused exclusively on real-time social media monitoring. “A large portion of the complaints we get during major events are online threats. We screen them and, when necessary, act on them,” Delzotto said.
– Enhanced screening at Harry Reid International Airport for inbound travelers, including checks for prior criminal history and any links to foreign terrorist organizations.
With hundreds of thousands of fans expected on the Strip, the FBI’s message is clear: the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix will be one of the most heavily protected sporting events in the country.
