Joe Alexander dies

A great old timer at the Brickyard who was always at the Speedway and knew everyone by name. (See related article)

Joe F. Alexander 93, Speedway, Indiana, and formerly of Stewartstown, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007. He was born on February 19, 1914 in Marysville, Ohio to the late James H. and Lucy May (Jackman) Alexander.

He was a Construction Supervisor for the Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco, CA. Memberships included: Masonic Lodge #204 in Salinas, CA; member of the Consistory of Fresno, CA; member of the 500 Old Timers of Indianapolis, Indiana; Lifetime Member of United States Auto Club. He was also a member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church of Street, MD.

He was also preceded in death by wife Jeannette Alexander; son, Anthony Scott Alexander, two brothers; Carroll J and Rolland H. Alexander, and one step-son and one-step daughter. Mr. Alexander is survived by two step grandchildren, five nieces, and many close friends.

Friends may visit from 1:30- 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA., with service starting at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow service at Stewartstown Cemetery, Stewartstown, PA.
