Sneak peek at next-gen IndyCar (Update)

UPDATE To be clear, this was never a mockup of the 2018 IndyCar. The point of the rumor was to show once again that an IndyCar with a canopy could be a great looking car instead of the hideous looking existing car with a blob of bodywork in front of the rear wheels that looks downright ridiculous. The car is actually a single seat Nissan SYNAPTIQ concept car of the future.

Rumor has it that the next generation IndyCar due out in 2018, complete with canopies to protect the driver, could look like the photo to the right. Because they are called open-wheel, not open-cockpit, cars, we suspect the air deflectors shown over the wheels may get the purist's panties in a knot, but other than that it's a design that should generate new IndyCar fans.

Will the final car look like this? Absolutely not, it looks to good.
