IndyCar Car parts dilemma nears resolution

A resolution to IndyCar’s pesky and divisive car parts issue is expected this week, Dallara’s Indianapolis-based director said Sunday at Sonoma Raceway.

The deal will reduce the cost of parts to teams by as much as 20 percent, although details are still to be resolved, said Stefano Deponti, general manager of Dallara’s U.S.-based operation.

Also to be finalized: The length of the agreement, which at present is targeted for the end of the 2013 season.

Team owners have been seeking an overall reduction in the price of IndyCar participation, and Dallara has been caught in the middle since being named sole supplier of the first-year DW12 chassis. Indy Star
