di Grassi to secure second Manor seat

(GMM) Boss John Booth has hinted strongly that Lucas di Grassi is set to secure the second 2010 race seat with the new formula one team Manor.

Brazilian Lucas di Grassi, who won the prestigious Macau F3 race with Manor four years ago, said recently his chance of becoming Timo Glock's new F1 teammate was "good".

"Hopefully we should be able to announce the second driver in a couple of weeks," Booth told the South China Morning Post at last weekend's Macau F3 race.

Di Grassi, 25, is a regular in the F1 feeder series GP2, and completed the 2009 season as Renault's reserve driver.

Booth admits that winning the 2005 Macau GP with di Grassi at the wheel remains "the highlight of my racing career".

"That was a superb win," he added.

Booth said he could not yet confirm the identity of Glock's 2010 teammate, but said: "There is a possibility he may have won the Macau grand prix before."

Takuma Sato won Macau in 2001, and five years later the winner was Mike Conway, who will test with Brawn/Mercedes at next week's Jerez test.

Booth also would not confirm intense speculation that Manor will shortly be launched as Virgin F1 ahead of its 2010 debut.

"I couldn't possibly comment on that. In the next two weeks there will be an announcement on the commercial tie-up of the company," he said.
