Two icons of the Australian motorsport and automotive industries have announced they will join forces in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

Repco and DJR Team Penske have agreed on a multi-year sponsorship agreement that sees Repco become a partner of the Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Repco was founded in Melbourne in 1922 as “Replacement Parts Company", and has gone on to become one of the most recognized and trusted names in the Australasian automotive aftermarket.

Repco’s motorsport involvement goes all the way back to 1947, but is most famous for its involvement with Jack Brabham – a partnership that culminated in the 1966 Formula 1 World Championship in Jack’s very own Repco V8-powered Brabham BT19 – the only driver to claim the World Championship in his own car. Brabham’s teammate, Kiwi Denny Hulme, won the team a second World Championship in 1967, again driving a Repco-Brabham race car.

Wayne Bryant, Executive General Manager of Repco Australia, said that the company was making a long overdue return to Supercars racing.

“We are incredibly proud of Repco’s impressive history in motorsport across Australia and the world, so returning to Supercars feels like a homecoming," said Bryant.

“This decision was not just about sticking a logo on a car, Repco are looking to create deep engagement with motoring enthusiasts across Australia and New Zealand."

Bryant also explained, “Forming this relationship with DJR Team Penske and the Shell V-Power Racing Team brings two iconic organizations together in one formidable motorsport partnership."

DJR Team Penske Managing Director, Ryan Story, said that having Repco join the team was an important moment in Australian motorsport.

“This is no small thing to bring Repco back into Australian motorsport, and to be the team they’ve chosen to partner with is a source of immense pride for all of us at Shell V-Power Racing Team," said Story.

“It’s very fitting that Repco have joined us in time for this weekend’s retro round as Ron Tauranac, the designer of the Brabham BT-19 worked for Dick Johnson Racing. We’re excited about this partnership and can’t wait to get underway at Sandown."

The Shell V-Power Racing Team will take to the track this weekend, September 14 to 16, at the Sandown 500 – the first round of the 2018 Pirtek Enduro Cup.
