Ask.com to become NASCAR search engine

Ask.com, the Barry Diller-owned Internet search engine, is expected to strike a multi-year official status deal with NASCAR, giving it new league and team sponsorships going into the '09 season. In addition to its deal to become the official search engine of NASCAR, Oakland-based Ask.com will sponsor a Sprint Cup car run jointly by HOF Racing and Yates Racing. Ask.com also is expected to buy a significant ad presence on Turner-run NASCAR.com.

Terms on these deals were not available, but official sponsors at NASCAR typically spend in the low seven figures annually, and the deals usually go three to five years. Ask.com has hired GMR Marketing to handle its motorsports activation, while Taylor is running the public relations. The Daily
