Safety car to lead Monza GP start?

(GMM) Deep puddles littered the Monza paddock on Sunday, and rumors say the race may begin behind the safety car.

The ultra-fast Italian circuit is typified with long straights into hard braking zones, particularly the chicane at the beginning of the lap.

There are concerns however that the dangers of the start could actually be amplified by the safety car.

Toyota driver Timo Glock is concerned that, despite the field being more spread out, higher speeds into the first chicane could spell trouble.

"If we start behind the safety car, then we arrive faster in the first curve than after a standing start," the German told motorsport-total.com.

There has not been a wet Italian grand prix since the 1970s, though the 2002 event was run in partially wet conditions.
