Raikkonen likely to have engine change

(GMM) Ferrari will probably change Kimi Raikkonen's engine ahead of the British grand prix in two weeks.

The Finn was lucky to finish Sunday's race at Magny-Cours, after the exhaust for the right-bank of the V8 engine broke off and burned a hole in the bodywork.

Raikkonen, who otherwise would have dominantly won the French grand prix, told reporters afterwards that he suffered a loss of power from his engine before it nearly stopped altogether in the closing stages.

The engine was due to be carried over to Silverstone, in accordance with the rule mandating a two-race life for each power plant in formula one.

Team boss Stefano Domenicali told reporters after Sunday's Magny-Cours event: "I think it's a bit ambitious to use (the engine in) another race.

"I don't know yet but I would say it is quite likely," he added.

Raikkonen, who is now five points behind in the championship, will not be penalized for an engine change for the British grand prix.

A new rule for this year allows each driver to have one unscheduled engine change without penalty.
