Villa in running for BMW-Sauber test seat

(GMM) Javier Villa has been mentioned as a contender to become BMW-Sauber's primary test and reserve driver in 2008.

The 20-year-old Spaniard, who won three GP2 sprint races in 2007 and finished the series for the Racing Engineering team in sixth place, will "almost certainly" test for BMW in the near future, the sports daily Marca said on Friday.

Several other drivers are also rumored to be in the running to replace the Toyota-bound Timo Glock at BMW.

The Hinwil based team is expected to make its decision in December, after a handful of candidates – possibly including the Estonian Marko Asmer, Willi Weber protégé Nico Hulkenberg or Robert Doornbos – test at Jerez next week.

Marca reports that Villa, managed by Racing Engineering owner Alfonso de Orleans, and BMW-Sauber team officials met at the Formula BMW World Finals at Valencia last weekend.
