Jensen to field car for Mexico

UPDATE This rumor, first broke by AutoRacing1.com last month, is upgraded to 'strong' today. Autosport reports that Eric Jensen has declared himself '90 percent certain' to run a Champ Car in the season finale, having been loaned PKV Racing's spare chassis.

"The only slight doubt that remains is covering the operational costs. We did have an agreement with a sponsor back in July to do this, and we were going to run the final two races, but the cancellation of the Phoenix race jeopardized that."

Jensen confirmed that he is not looking for a pay-driver, and that favorites for the seat are Ryan Dalziel who was recently released by Pacific Coast Motorsports and Franck Perera who finished runner-up in the Atlantic Championship.

He said: "I don't want someone who's going to crash, and Franck didn't crash once in Atlantics this year and is clearly very, very talented. And Ryan now has an almost complete season of experience in the DP01 and is also clearly talented."

Jensen has confirmed he has been in contact with Oriol Servia as well.

09/29/07 According to AutoRacing1.com sources there is a possibility that Jensen Motorsports will field a single Champ Car for Ryan Dalziel or Franck Perera at Mexico City. The team had also planned to run the Phoenix race until that was axed. We hear getting a spare car from a team may be the issue. Recall that Jensen fielded a car for one race in 2005 at Long Beach. Meanwhile the Eric Jensen team has applied for a GP2 franchise, and if approved, could be moving across the Atlantic for 2008.
