Champ Car or F1 back to Denver

According to this tabloid newspaper article (Daily Mirror) Bernie Ecclestone's reported flirtations with ownership of the British football club Arsenal may be linked with the rescue of the axed US grand prix.

The English tabloid The Mirror reports that F1's chief executive could be joining forces with fellow billionaire and Arsenal bidder Stan Kroenke, an American, in the hope of reinstating the country on his annual formula one calendar.

The newspaper speculates that, in return for having his Arsenal bid bolstered, Kroenke might use "his influence to take grand prix racing to … his home town of Denver".

Kroenke, 60, has previously admitted his interest in organizing a street circuit in Colorado and has already been in talks with the Champ Car series.

Since Kroenke and Ecclestone were linked with buying the north London club, however, its managing director Keith Edelman has warned that billionaires do not necessarily make good owners of football clubs.

"Some other clubs with billionaire owners, their debts are mounting up," he said.
