Earnhardt Jr. to drive Daddy’s No. 3

With NASCAR ratings sagging one rumor that's been circulating since Earnhardt announced he wouldn't return to Dale Earnhardt Inc. next season is that he could end up at Richard Childress Racing. Dale Earnhardt Sr. raced for Childress, which has fueled the speculation and what better way to grab more of daddy's fans than to be reunited with the black No. 3 car. RCR still holds the rights to the No. 3 and some think it was planned all along that Junior would eventually drive it.

"Dale is like family to me," Childress said. "I remember him from a kid growing up. He knows I'm always there for him. I want to give him the best advice and I'll support him wherever he goes. I'll support whatever he wants to do. We haven't talked since he made his decision. I just want him to take some time and look at whatever is out there. The time will come right when we'll talk. And if it's in the cards, whatever will be will be.

"Anyone would love to have Dale Jr. drive for them. I know that he would fit in our organization. Our drivers, I've talked to them. I know they would fit with him and the crew chiefs. It has to mix. It has to be positive not only for Dale Jr. to come over but for all our sponsors, all of our race teams, for everyone involved. And that's the same wherever he goes."
