Smithfield Foods will be a primary sponsor of Richard Petty Motorsports' No. 43 Chevrolet for six races in ’18 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series according to Adam Stern of Sports Business Daily.

Smithfield last September announced a move alongside longtime endorser Aric Almirola to Stewart-Haas Racing this season. The company also decided to stay on with RPM for one more season as part of a settlement between the two sides after RPM accused Smithfield of backing out of a handshake deal to renew. However, details of how much Smithfield would be investing into RPM this year had not been revealed until now.

Smithfield Exec VP/Sales & Marketing for Packaged Meats Division John Pauley said that rather than use the primary space for its own brand, it will pass the space through to some of its key grocery retail partners who are helping promote Smithfield’s Ekrich Meats brand.

Ekrich’s logo will also be on the No. 43’s rear deck lid all season. Meanwhile, the NASCAR Racing Experience has bought the primary sponsorship of RPM’s No. 43 Chevy for Sunday's Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

This will mark the first time as a primary sponsor in NASCAR’s premier series for the NASCAR Racing Experience, which also operates the Richard Petty Driving Experience and Mario Andretti Racing Experience. Adam Stern/SBD
