Will Vegas budget crunch affect GP?

Response times will be longer. Quality of work may suffer. There will be little ability to support special programs or events, like the Tennis Channel Open and the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The grim realities of expanding employee costs, a growing population and more city facilities like parks and community centers, coupled with flat tax revenues, became clearer Wednesday at a budget workshop for the Las Vegas City Council. Except for four smaller police facilities and two fire stations, no other capital projects will be started, according to a draft budget presentation by Finance Director Mark Vincent. Las Vegas also won't add any new positions next fiscal year, leading to an inevitable struggle over how the work force will handle more parks and city projects that are set to open.
