Las Vegas race to sell out

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today. No tickets remain for the March 11 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The speedway announced early Thursday that only a few hundred single-seat tickets were available for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. Within a few hours those had been purchased. The sellout is the earliest for the track since its inaugural Cup race in 1998. Since then, seating capacity has been expanded by approximately 30,000.

"Obviously, the buzz that's been created by raising the (track's) banking and the building of the Neon Garage has spurred an unprecedented level of interest," said Chris Powell, the speedway's general manager.

"People love coming to Las Vegas. The increased banking has people counting on seeing a better show. There's a little bit of a curiosity factor. The Neon Garage will be the talk of the sport." Las Vegas Review Journal

03/02/07 Aside from a handful of available singles, the March 11 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a sellout, track officials announced in a news release Thursday.

The track has 128,000 permanent seats, including luxury suites but not including infield capacity.

LVMS has gone through a major renovation in the last year, complete with a new paving and banking (20 degrees from 12 degrees) and a new garage area.

"The demand for NASCAR tickets in Las Vegas confirms once again that Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the premier destination on the NASCAR circuit," said Chris Powell, general manager of LVMS. "This year we've sold out of Sunday's event earlier than any other year. Obviously, the buzz that's been created by raising the speedway's banking and the building of the Neon Garage has spurred an unprecedented level of interest."
