Tree huggers trying to stop Mont Tremblant race

UPDATE The rumor is quickly downgraded to 'false.' The City gave the track the test days and noise days it required last week. The Journal de Montreal is working off of old data.

11/21/06 According to this French Canadian Journal de Montreal article, some citizens near the Mont Tremblant race course are trying to stop the Champ Car race from happening by using noise as a reason. We doubt they will succeed, but as is typical with tree huggers, they like to see their names in the media – makes them feel important by trying to stop progress. This race track has been there long before they lived there. Guess what comes from a race track? You've got it – noise. The judge will likely tell them to go pound sand, er or hug another tree.

The article does mention that the promoter is prepared to move the race to the Montreal race promoter Alan Labrosse's Mirabel Airport track which we have seen and can say that it's a plan worth considering. In fact the race would draw far more people from Montreal than Mont-Tremblant, hence overall attendance would be much higher at Mirabel Airport. This would mean that Mont-Tremblant would lose all the money that the race would bring to the local economy. The mayor is going to be very unhappy with those tree huggers should this happen.
