Klien on Honda’s short list

UPDATE #2 (GMM) Mere hours after Honda confirmed its interest in signing Christian Klien as a test driver, the Red Bull refugee says he would 'welcome' a deal with the Japanese marque.

"Honda is one of the most successful companies in the history of motor racing," the 23-year-old Austrian was quoted as saying by 'ORF'.

"Naturally I would welcome working for such a successful and ambitious team."

The test driver post at Brackley based Honda would be vacated by the probably Super Aguri-bound Anthony Davidson. Klien has also been linked with the vacant Spyker race seat alongside Christijan Albers, and traveled to the recent Brazilian grand prix for meetings with both teams.

11/07/06 (GMM) Honda has confirmed its interest in Red Bull refugee Christian Klien for 2007.

After the Austrian driver traveled to the Brazilian grand prix last month for talks, 23-year-old Klien was spotted last week at the factory of the Brackley based F1 squad.

As well as the opportunity to replace Anthony Davidson as test driver, he is also in discussions with Spyker about the race seat next to Christijan Albers.

Honda vice-president Otmar Szafnauer admitted to 'ORF Kurzsport' that the Japanese manufacturer is in contact with Klien.

Moreover, the driver's father and manager, Johannes Klien, has reportedly been told that a decision is necessary in the coming days.

10/10/06 According to autosport.com, Timo Glock and Christian Klien are on Honda's short list to be test drivers in 2007. The team admits, however, that there are plenty of drivers that can fill that role. Klien's career is over as it appears he will not land a race seat in 2007 without Red Bull backing and he appears destined to be, therefore, an F1 test driver at best.
