McLaren ready to unleash ‘b’ team

(GMMf1NET) McLaren's old factory in Woking is ready to house a 'b' formula one team.

That is the suggestion of principal Ron Dennis, who said in Bahrain that he was waiting on an FIA rule-change to speed up plans for a second outfit.

Throughout last year, it was strongly rumored that 'Direxiv' was planning to fund a 'b' team, using Mercedes-Benz engines and old McLaren chassis.

But, under the current provisions of the Concorde Agreement, running a team's old car is strictly forbidden.

''If there is (rule) clarity then that will definitely encourage us to move in that direction,'' Dennis said.

The Briton described McLaren's former HQ in Woking as 'pristine' after a thorough revamp.

He added: ''The investment was made in order that an option of running a second team exists.''
