Champ Car to drop all ovals

Milwaukee in June may be Champ Car's last hurrah on ovals for quite some time. "In my opinion if people want to watch oval racing they're going to watch NASCAR," says Kevin Kalkhoven.

"How do you compete with the spectacle of 40 stock cars charging around an oval track? It's a spectacle, but it's not a 3-day festival.

"Ovals are part of the heritage of the series and I personally hate to see them disappear, " he added. "What is clear at the moment, however, is that oval racing fans want to watch NASCAR. You can see from the other series that go oval racing that there's not a lot of interest in it. Road racing has a different set of fans." Road and Track
