Friesacher could snare top test seat

(GMMf1NET) Another candidate has moved into the frame for the second test seat at Williams in 2006.

Although India's Narain Karthikeyan looked like a shoe-in for the sponsor-funded seat next to Friday driver Alex Wurz, Austria's 'Salzburger Nachrichten' claims that Patrick Friesacher also stands a fighting chance.

The 25-year-old Austrian drove 11 grands prix for Minardi last year until his sponsorship purse ran dry.

It is suggested that between $2.5 and $5 million would secure the ride, contemplated by Sir Frank Williams to help fund the 'Friday' car and Wurz's wage.

Denmark's Nicolas Kiesa was also reportedly considered for the test ride, but it remains uncertain that anyone will inevitably get the nod.
