Nissan also eyeing ALMS

UPDATE Hearing that originally it wasn’t going to happen until 2007. The car is reportedly based on the Nismo version of the Skyline that will use the 4.5 liter Infiniti engine or an offshoot of the new Renault F1 V8. The idea was have one year of competition before the 2008 model was introduced. We had heard that that the consumer price was to be around $125k. More here.

There were rumors that they may bring it up a year if Lexus and Honda followed Porsche to ALMS. Lexus has and Honda could be too according to rumors.

12/01/05 Rumors are swirling that Nissan is looking to upgun their highly successful 350Z with a powerful V-8, possibly to compete in the ALMS. Already, “Z" cars compete in the Japanese Super GT series, the closest equivalent to the ALMS or LMES (the ALMS opposite number series in Europe). It would be not much of a stretch for them to compete in the ALMS.

But Nissan, a marquee that has won at Sebring before with Johnny O’Connell as one of the drivers behind the wheel, is not going to bring a knife to a gun fight.

Hence the 4.5 liter eight that will pump around 430 horsepower on the street version and probably more under the hood of a GT2 or possibly even a GT1 Nissan machine. Highlands Today
