Wheldon may get a test with Williams

UPDATE At least one formula one team is dead 'serious' about Dan Wheldon. His is not a well known name in Europe, but the 27-year-old Englishman wrapped up the Indy Racing League title in New York overnight, and earlier in 2005 won the Indy 500.

Now, the Briton is apparently being courted by Sir Frank Williams, who has an affection for American-made stars after hauling Jacques Villeneuve, Alex Zanardi and Juan Pablo Montoya across the Atlantic.

Dan Wheldon, who is holding out against signing a new 2006 contract with Andretti-Green, said on Sunday: ''I've had probably fifteen approaches from different (F1) teams.''

So, too, have plenty of others. But Dan knows when a grand prix squad is being serious.

He explained: ''(It's) when they ask for your weight and height to see if you fit in their car! One team has done that.'' [Editor's Note: We predict Wheldon will not get an F1 ride. This is all just a PR stunt.]

09/22/05 This Grandprix.com article says, There is much talk at the moment of Nico Rosberg being the favorite for the second seat at Williams next now that Jenson Button has bought his way out of his contract and Nick Heidfeld has been released to join BMW. However there are no foregone conclusions in this matter and we hear that one man who might be in the frame is Britain's Dan Wheldon who, at 27, has won the Indianapolis 500 and will soon win the Indy Racing League title as well. Wheldon has achieved pretty much all he can achieve in America, finishing runner-up to Tony Kanaan last year and on the verge of this year's title. He is the first Englishman to the win the Indy 500 since Graham Hill in 1966 and the first to win both the 500 and the title. The last man to do that was Jacques Villeneuve 10 years ago. There were stories back in June that Wheldon would get a chance to drive a Williams this year if the team had the capacity to give him a run, not least because his manager Julian Jakobi is a well-known F1 mover and shaker.
