Why 99.9% car

Dear AutoRacing1.com, Why do you keep saying F1 is 99.9% car and 0.1% driver? How did you come up with that? Dave Beyers, Florida

Dear Dave, If a laptime is say 90 seconds, 0.1% of that is 0.09 sec. That is the typical difference you will see in teammates lap times in F1. 99.9% of the lap time is the car and in most cases teammates lap times are nearly identical. In a sports, it's the best athletes that are supposed to win, in F1 it's the engineers that win. AR1 staff
