The team is leasing the No. 16 NASCAR Charter from Roush Fenway Racing for next year and Buescher, who raced this year for Front Row Motorsports while under contract to Roush Fenway, is being loaned to the team.

Roush Fenway Racing confirmed they were leasing the No. 16 Charter to JTG Daugherty Racing in a press release Tuesday. JTG Daugherty Racing confirmed their plans via a statement on social media a short time later.

"We can confirm at this time that JTG Daugherty Racing is currently in the process of starting a second team in the NASCAR premier series," JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said. "We would also like to confirm and welcome Chris Buescher to the team as our driver for the second car. More details will follow."

Buescher, the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion, made the Chase in his rookie season driving for Front Row Motorsports after winning at Pocono Raceway after fog stopped the race.

"I can confirm that I have signed to race for JTG Daugherty Racing as they expand to a two-car team in the NASCAR premier series in 2017," Buescher said. "I'm thankful for the opportunity and look forward to competing for a spot in the Chase."

JTG Daugherty Racing entered the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2009 with Marcos Ambrose. The 2016 will be JTG Daugherty Racing's ninth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. A.J. Allmendinger, who will remain with the team in the No. 47 car next year, has the only Cup Series victory for the team at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) Int'l in 2014.
