The 1984 Indy 500 run in the CART era had a record 117 entries, that was before Tony George took his hammer to the sport. Now every year the IndyCar Series struggles to get 33 cars and they are lucky if there is any bumping on Bump Day. CART was so terrible that Tony George and his minions had to destroy it.
