Jaindl buys Nazareth Speedway

1996 and 1997 CART IndyCar crowds at Nazareth until Tony George's hammer took hold and destroyed it all

Developer David Jaindl has bought the former Nazareth Speedway in Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County from ISC. The track was originally a 1-1/8 mile dirt track. When Roger Penske bought it he paved it and put a lot of money into making it a first class facility before eventually selling it to ISC.

Early CART IndyCar races at the track were well attended. Then in 1995 Tony George split the sport with the creation of the IRL and "brought his hammer to work everyday" (his exact words) until he destroyed CART and nearly the sport.

The failure of Nazareth (and many other tracks) to draw big crowds once Tony brought his hammer out led to the tracks eventual demise. In a time when IndyCar is looking for more oval tracks, this is another example of the destruction done to the sport by Tony George's actions.

Jaindl says his company will farm the agricultural lands around the speedway this Spring.

Jaindl has built homes in the area so it remains to be seen if he builds homes on the property.
