NASCAR Driver Wonders If Skin Color Is A Reason He Can't Land Major Sponsor

Do black NFL quarterbacks have to bring a sponsor to play in the NFL? Of course not, in a real sport the athletes don't buy their way into the game.

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace wonders if his skin color is a reason why he and Roush Fenway Racing cannot find a "big sponsor" for their No. 6 Xfinity Series Ford. Appearing in an installment of BLEACHER REPORT's "Uninterrupted."

Wallace, who is African-American, lamented the difficulty of landing a major sponsor, saying, "I just need to figure out what I and my team need to do to land a big sponsor. I’ve been fighting that for 13 years now. … They said to win, and we’ve done that numerous amounts of times. I can run up front with the big dogs. I don’t know. Is it because I look different? Who knows? We need to figure out something to get this ball rolling."

He said he and the team need to "start getting our I’s dotted and our T’s crossed" for the '16 season, which begins next month. Wallace: "The biggest issue right now is sponsorship. It will be for a long time, but 'm tired of stressing over it. I'm ready to land one and to go out there and set this season on fire" "ninterrupted," BLEACHERREPORT.com

Several different companies served as Wallace's primary sponsor for races last season, with Ford and Roush Performance taking the majority of them. The video was posted on Bleacher Report on Tuesday, but currently cannot be found on the website. A Bleacher Report spokesperson had no comment about whether the video would be re-posted THE DAILY.
