Williams driver Felipe Massa has been disqualified from the Brazilian Grand Prix after his right-rear tyre did not comply with the maximum tread temperature when it was tested on the grid prior to the race.

Massa's tires were tested after the five minute signal was given prior to the start of the race at Interlagos, where it was discovered that his right-rear tire had a temperature of 137°c.

The measurement was 27°c above the maximum tread temperature of 110°c permitted by Formula 1 tire supplier Pirelli.

Massa's tire pressure was also recorded at 20.6 PSI, 0.1 PSI above the minimum tire pressure.

Massa finished the race in eighth position but has now been disqualified from the results, promoting Romain Grosjean into eighth, Max Verstappen to ninth and Pastor Maldonado into the points.

Williams has notified its intention to appeal Massa's exclusion.
