Appeal date set for No. 48 team infractions from Charlotte Motor Speedway

The National Motorsports Appeals Panel will hear the case of Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 team on June 9, 2015 at 9 a.m. ET at the NASCAR R&D Center. The appeal stems from a P1 level penalty issues to the team for receiving written warnings at back-to-back events at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The No. 48 team was first warned by NASCAR for allegedly tampering with the car's side skirts in an effort to improve downforce during the May 16 Sprint All-Star Race at CMS.

NASCAR eliminated the manipulation of side skirts at the beginning of the 2015 season after becoming regular practice in 2014 to gain an aerodynamic advantage.

The second written warning stemmed from issues in Coca-Cola 600 pre-qualifying inspection. The combined written warnings resulted in the automatic P1 penalty on NASCAR's six-tier Deterrence System.

As a result of the infractions, the No. 48 team would have received one of the last two choices in the pit selection process, respective to qualifying results, during this past weekend's event at Dover International Speedway.

By appealing, the penalty was deferred and crew chief Chad Knaus was able to make his pit stall selection based on Johnson's qualifying effort at Dover, one of the toughest pit roads in all of NASCAR.

With the appeal being heard on June 9, Knaus will be permitted to select the team's pit stall according to qualifying for this weekend's race at Pocono Raceway.
