Hinchcliffe injured in another big Indy crash (2nd Update)

UPDATE #2 Hinchcliffe is listed in stable condition and underwent surgery on his upper left thigh at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He will not be driving in this year's Indy 500.

05/18/15 James was reported awake, breathing on his own, but in pain. Practice on hold until "we can determine the cause of the accident." Sources saying that it was "confirmed" that is was a front-right failure. In-car audio had a flapping noise, not unlike a flat tire. Looked to me like both front tires were up. Tim Wohlford reporting from Indy

05/18/15 James Hinchcliffe has had a big accident during practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this afternoon. The car appeared to bottom on the transmission (suspension failure) and he went hard into the Turn 3 wall. The lap before in the same corner you can see a puff of smoke from under the car as if it bottomed on that lap too.

When the destroyed car came to rest Hinch was moving his head slightly but then he appeared to lose consciousness. He was removed on a backboard but reports are he is now awake and alert and being taken to the IU Medical Center.
