Spanish GP: Mercedes 1-2 waltz continues in practice 1

Nico Rosberg – Take that Ferrari – My engineers are better than your engineers

Nico Rosberg finished the first practice session for the Spanish GP in Barcelona on top, just 0.070s ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, but a comfortable 0.978s clear of Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari in third.

Unless Ferrari was sandbagging in session 1, which they have every reason to, their new upgrades still leave them a second per lap slower than Mercedes.

Kimi Raikkonen was 4th in the 2nd Ferrari.

With both Mercedes drivers close in time to each other (0.070 sec apart), and both Ferrari drivers close in time to each other (0.026 sec apart) but 1 second slower than the Mercedes, it's clear that the driver means nothing in F1.

You could put any monkey in the Mercedes and they will be at the front one second faster than any monkey you put in the Ferrari. F1 is not a sport anymore, but an exercise in engineering talent.
