Lorenzo tops opening practice at Jerez

Movistar Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo bounced back from his poor start to the season to set the quickest time in FP1 in Jerez. The Spaniard set a 1’39.174 early on in the session and it was only the Team Suzuki Ecstar GSX-RR of Aleix Espargaro(+0.049s), utilizing the softer tire option, that could get within half a second of him.

Cal Crutchlow (+0.5673s) on the CWM LCR Honda completed the provisional front row in third, with the Ducati Team GP15 of Andrea Dovizioso (+0.568s) in fourth.

The satellite Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine of Pol Espargaro (+0.697s) was in fifth ahead of the current Championship leader Valentino Rossi, who could only set a time good enough for 6th, 0.698s behind his teammate.

Maverick Vinales ended the session in 7th place, ahead of reigning MotoGP™ Champion Marquez, who was on track for the first time since fracturing his little finger on his left hand and managed to complete 17 laps. Hector Barbera and Scott Redding rounded out the top ten, while Loris Baz (13th) and Eugene Laverty (14th) also impressed on their respective Open class bikes, despite the Frenchman crashing out earlier in the session.
