Mercedes-Benz C-Class Named 2016 World Car of the Year

Mercedes C-Class

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was officially named the 2016 World Car of the Year today during the New York Auto Show.

It edged past the Ford Mustang and the Volkswagen Passat to take the award, marking the first time in three years that a product from the Volkswagen Group didn’t get the award. The W205 C-Class is considerably larger than the W204 generation and is available with either a turbocharged four-cylinder of six-cylinder engine in the U.S. market.

Of course there is also the high-performance V8-powered AMG model, but that’s an entirely different animal. Pricing for the C300 kicks off at $39,325 and for that price you get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powering the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission. The V6-powered C400 starts at $49,515.
