Daytona To Remove Backstretch Seating After 2015

Daytona Int'l Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said that the 46,000-seat backstretch section of the track will be “removed next year" after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coke Zero 400 race, according to Jeffrey Cassady of the Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL. Chitwood on Friday said, “We find that the backstretch doesn’t renew very well — we churn a lot of the accounts."

DIS is "currently renovating its frontstretch" in a $400M project "dubbed Daytona Rising." Chitwood: "We don’t feel it makes sense to sell (the backstretch) experience anymore when you have all these great (post-Daytona Rising) amenities on the frontstretch." DIS Senior Manager of Media Relations Andrew Booth in an e-mail wrote that the racetrack "hasn’t yet decided where it will send the backstretch seats." Daytona Beach News Journal
