Briscoe, Panther to Test Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course

Panther Racing and driver Ryan Briscoe will join Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver Graham Rahal for a Wednesday test session on multiple configurations of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. The test is being organized by IMS and IndyCar officials to gather information about the current course layouts as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway considers changes and upgrades.

“I thought Sonoma would be the last time I would be driving an IndyCar for some time, so to get the invite to be part of this test is really cool," Briscoe said. “It’s always special to drive at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – whether it’s on the oval or any other course. I’m really looking forward to it."

Panther’s best IndyCar Series finish at IMS is second place on four occasions (2008-2011) but the team has won Firestone Indy Lights races on both the oval (Dillon Battistini, 2008) and the road course (Hideki Mutoh, 2007) at the historic racetrack. Briscoe was the Indianapolis 500 polesitter in 2012 and finished 12th earlier this season in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing.

“There was talk about doing the Grand-Am race this year, but then I broke my wrist," Briscoe continued. “So I’m pretty excited about the opportunity to test the road course – or should I say road courses – at Indy."

Briscoe made six starts in Panther’s No. 4 National Guard Chevrolet this season, including most recently at Sonoma Raceway. The 31-year-old is unable to start either of the remaining races on the IndyCar calendar due to conflicts with previous commitments to his ALMS team. Oriol Servia is slated to drive the National Guard entry at both Houston and Fontana.

Spectators can watch Wednesday’s on-track activity from the South Terrace grandstand and the Turn Two viewing mounds.
